Date: 17/06/2020

According to Culture Trip, there are 9 places not to be missed when visiting the Mekong Delta.

1. Ninh Kieu wharf

Ninh Kieu wharf (or Ninh Kiều Park) is located on the right bank of Hau River, between the confluence of Hậu River and Can Tho River. It is adjacent to Hai Ba Trưng Street, Tan An Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho city. Ninh Kieu wharf has an area of over 7,000 m2. This area becomes very crowded because bars, restaurants, and hotels are growing more and more, attracting large numbers of tourists. The best moment of the day in Ninh Kieu park is at sunset when a crowd of fishing boats is docked in the wharf. A seafood meal in a restaurant overlooking the sea and a night market stroll will leave an impressive night in the minds of visitors.

2. Cai Rang floating market

The floating market is a typical cultural feature of the Mekong region. Tourists are extremely interested in boats carrying vegetables, goods, and gathering in one place to form a market. Cai Rang Floating Market is the most famous market, worth a try at least once in your lifetime. The market usually starts at 3 am but the busiest time is 2 hours later. Just come and witness the unique lifestyle of the traders on the boat.

3. Vĩnh Tràng Pagoda

Vĩnh Tràng Pagoda which was built in 1849 is located in My Tho, Tien Giang Province, and has an area of about 2,000 m2. The beautiful structure features a mixture of Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and European architectural styles, making it an ideal place for tourists. In the pagoda, there are many different Buddha statues. On the outside, the central gate is meticulously and beautifully decorated with intricate mosaics and sculptures created by the hands of Hue artisans. The most valuable moment is at 10 am when you hear the Buddhist chanting of the monks and feel the peaceful tranquility.

4. Cai Be floating market

Cai Be Floating Market, located in Cai Be town, Tien Giang province, is one of the largest retail markets in the Mekong Delta. Not only are fresh fruits and vegetables, but it is also easy to find fabrics, home appliances, fresh seafood, or even food and drinks served from boat to boat.

5. Cái Bè fruit garden

The Mekong Delta is the main supplier of tropical fruits (70%) for the whole country, simply because of its temperate climate, rich alluvial soil, and fruit-laden orchards. Various fresh tropical fruits can be found in these orchards like mango, grapefruit, guava, apple, jackfruit, dragon fruit, durian, mangosteen, wax apple, etc. Therefore, Cai Be fruit granary is also as famous as Cai Be floating market when it owns a large cultivated area. Coming here, visitors can immerse themselves in nature, freely pick fruits, and enjoy these fresh treats on-site.

6. Trà Sư mangrove forest

Trà Sư mangrove forest, located in An Phu, Chau Doc, An Giang province, is exactly the ideal eco-tourism destination for those who want to explore nature. The forest is nice and dry during the first 6 months but will be flooded with water and mud at the end of the year. However, this does not prevent the adventurers who are eager to discover the renowned mangrove forest on boat. The recommended time to visit Trà Sư mangrove forest is from September to November each year.

7. Sam Mountain

The Holy Mother of the Realm (Bà Chúa Xứ) Temple on Sam Mountain

This mountain, located near Chau Doc city, is a wonderful place for those who love adventure and mountain climbing. Once conquering Sam Mountain, the magnificent view right in front of your eyes is immense rice fields, villages surrounded by the green of trees, and a small military station on the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Moreover, on the journey to Sam Mountain, there are dozens of beautiful temples, pagodas, and mausoleums, worth a try!

8. Tân Lập floating village

Tan Lap floating village (Moc Hoa, Long An district) is known as a typical ecotourism site, and it is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the Mekong Delta. With the admission fee of only 2.5 USD (about 50,000 VND), Tourists can freely walk the tree-lined roads in the beautiful Melaleuca forest or take a boat trip along the Rung canal. Visitors can capture the beautiful scenery of this place through observatories. After getting tired of exploring the place, visitors can enjoy local specialties, participate in campfires, picnics, and many other outdoor activities. November is the "golden time" for people to come here - when the lotus flowers begin to bloom, blending into the endless green to create the perfect color combination of nature.

9. Tràm Chim National park

Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap province is called the Kingdom of birds when preserving countless precious and endangered bird species. Its area is more than 7,500 hectares and there are 200 types of birds, accounting for a quarter of Vietnam's total bird species. The best months to visit these wonderful birds are in March or April.
