Banh Tet and Banh Chung Wrapping Competition

The “Wrapping, Cooking, and Displaying Banh Tet and Banh Chung” competition with the theme “Toward Our Roots” officially kicked off on the morning of April 6 at the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City.

The event was organized by the Can Tho City Women’s Union in celebration of Hung Kings' Commemoration Day 2025.

Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hang, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City; Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of Can Tho Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Lam, Chairwoman of Can Tho City Women’s Union.

A total of 12 teams participated in the competition. Each team included five members, with a maximum of two male participants. Competing teams were required to bring their own utensils, pots, stoves, firewood, ingredients, and decorative materials for their dish display.

The Women’s Union of the City Military Command and teams from the districts of O Mon, Thoi Lai, Cai Rang, and Phong Dien competed in the Banh Tet category, which involved wrapping, cooking, and presenting the cakes.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Union of Can tho City Police and teams from the districts of Binh Thuy, Ninh Kieu, Co Do, Vinh Thanh, and Thot Not, along with the Ninh Kieu Market Vendor Team, participated in the Banh Chung category.

Each team was required to produce eight pairs of Banh Tet or Banh Chung that met standard specifications. Teams were also expected to present and explain the meaning behind their cake arrangement, aligning with the theme of “Toward Our Roots.”

Once the cakes were cooked, teams showcased their final product and delivered a presentation on the cultural significance of their display.

Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, and Chairwoman of Can Tho City Women’s Union, Nguyen Thi Thu Lam, awarded student scholarships.

On this occasion, the competition’s organizing committee awarded 13 scholarships to disadvantaged students in Binh Thuy District who have demonstrated resilience and academic excellence. Each scholarship was valued at VND 500,000. These meaningful gifts aim to encourage and motivate students on their educational journey.
