
According to Can Tho Municipal Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City, from 2004 to 2023, over 16,380 science and technology projects have been implemented across various levels in the city. These initiatives have addressed critical challenges in production and social development while actively contributing to planning policies, guidelines, and strategic directions for the city's growth.
To promote innovative startup activities, Can Tho Municipal Department of Science and Technology has organized approximately 30 training courses since 2021, enhancing the capacity for innovative startups and attracting around 1,000 participants. Each year, the Department supports an average of 30 project groups by providing innovative startup services and promoting their products at various events, including Techfest Vietnam, Techmart, scientific seminars, and forums focused on innovation in different provinces and cities. In 2023, Can Tho City achieved 5th place in the Local Innovation Index, scoring 49.66. Several indicators received high scores, particularly in infrastructure, knowledge, innovation, technology products, and institutional support.
Can Tho's science and technology market is continuously developing synchronized, practical, modern, and integrated through various promotional activities, such as specialized exhibitions, the establishment of technology supply-demand connection points, and tech marts.
The Can Tho Technical Center for Standards, Metrology, and Quality currently meets state management and legal metrology requirements, supporting production and business initiatives while contributing to the city's socio-economic development and the Mekong Delta provinces. Seven ministries and departments have entrusted the center to conduct testing, inspection, calibration, and training in several fields, including environment, food hygiene and safety, and VietGAP. Since 2020, it has supported an average of about 5,000 agencies and enterprises in the city and neighboring Mekong Delta provinces yearly with product quality management and legal metrology compliance.
The City's Science and Technology Information Center actively promotes sharing in-depth information about scientific and technological achievements. It has maintained and updated over 60,000 general science and technology entries, more than 53,000 specialized documents, 11,000 technological equipment information entries, over 15,500 documents on intellectual property, more than 6,300 entries on scientific and technological organizations, and over 1,500 additional resources.
Moreover, the Center for Application of Science and Technology Advances has collaborated with experts to research and successfully transfer 14 technologies and ten technical processes in agriculture and the environment, both in Can Tho and nationwide. By September 2024, the Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technology Incubator had assisted 11 enterprises in its incubation program.
