On the morning of October 21st, the Can Tho chapter of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI's Branch in Can Tho) coordinated with the Asia Foundation (TAF) to organize the Mekong Delta Climate Action Fair with the theme “Impacts of drought and salinity on economic development and businesses in the Mekong River Delta - Adaptive solutions”. This event is part of a series of programs to build a network of businesses to adapt to climate change initiated by VCCI and the Asia Foundation and sponsored by UPS from 2021.

28 participating businesses brought products and technology solutions to the event across five categories, including green and environmentally friendly products; innovative start-ups helping communities adapt to climate change; products and services for environmental treatment; products on renewable energy and biomass energy; and products of research organizations, and investment funds to help businesses adapt to climate change.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phuong Lam, Director of VCCI's Branch in Can Tho, the fair displays a wide range of products and solutions adapted to climate change, especially in the field of aquaculture and agro-fishery processing. At the same time, the event affirms the role of businesses and the private sector in Vietnam's transition to a sustainable green economy and towards achieving the COP26 goals as committed by Vietnam. The fair aims to promote the more substantial participation of businesses and the private sector in climate adaptation activities and disaster risk prevention while seeking solutions and sustainable production models in their adaption to climate change. Moreover, it creates an opportunity for product suppliers to learn about the market and the actual needs of businesses and communities in the Mekong Delta. There is also a forum discussing the impacts of and ways to address drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta have also been scheduled within the framework of the event.

“This is the first thematic fair to introduce products, services, and technological solutions in the field of aquaculture adapting to climate change in the Mekong Delta. Although the fair is small in size, we appreciate the enthusiasm and efforts of businesses. Moreover, the products, services, and solutions at the fair are open-minded, unique, feasible, and highly practical. This is an opportunity for other businesses to cooperate, receive transfers and apply for business investment effectively”, Mr. Nguyen Phuong Lam spoke at the opening ceremony of the fair.
