Beyond optimizing time and cost, Mekong Express also targets sustainable development. Utilizing inland waterway transport, the service reduces CO emissions by over 60% compared to road transport. A real-time cargo and emissions monitoring system is integrated, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2026.

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, highly praised the strategic partnership between DP World and VIMC, noting that it delivers effective logistics solutions and helps boost trade across the Mekong Delta and the nation.

"The launch of the inland waterway transport route directly linking Can Tho Port, Cai Mep Port, and Ho Chi Minh City serves as a vital bridge between Vietnam’s largest economic hub and the Mekong Delta – the country’s key region for rice and seafood production. Moreover, it opens up opportunities for international connectivity via Cai Mep Port – one of Vietnam’s premier deep-water seaports. This provides a comprehensive logistics solution with faster delivery times, optimized costs, and reduced road congestion,” he emphasized.

Mekong Express is poised to become a crucial “lifeline” for trade, contributing to the realization of a green and sustainable economic development strategy for the region.

In addition, Can Tho City reaffirms its commitment to accompanying businesses by proactively addressing institutional, policy, and legal bottlenecks. The city pledges to promptly listen and resolve issues within its jurisdiction and propose recommendations to higher authorities to enable enterprises to exploit existing potential and advance their business operations fully.

The launch of the Mekong Express marks a significant milestone in VIMC Lines’ strategy to expand its domestic coastal transport network. It also holds special significance in completing the supply chain in the Mekong Delta, one of Vietnam’s largest agricultural and seafood production and export hubs.

With a frequency of two trips per week and a river-sea intermodal route, the service reduces transportation time from 48 hours to just 15 hours—an almost 70% decrease compared to traditional river transport methods.
