Date: 02/03/2025

On the evening of February 28, the Union of Friendship Organizations of Can Tho City, in coordination with the Can Tho City Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, held a gathering to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (January 30, 1950 – January 30, 2025) in Can Tho City.
The gathering to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

Attending the event were Mr. Sadykov Timur Sirozhevich, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Member of the Standing Committee of Can Tho City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City; Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, along with more than 700 young people and students in the city.

The event marked a significant milestone in the development of diplomatic relations and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia. It also served as an opportunity to introduce the traditional culture of Russia to the people of Can Tho while raising public awareness—especially among the younger generation—about the importance of maintaining and strengthening the Vietnam-Russia friendship.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the gathering, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep congratulated both nations on their remarkable achievements over the years. She emphasized that during Vietnam’s struggle for independence and reunification, the country received invaluable support and assistance from the Soviet Union—not only in material aid but also through profound spiritual solidarity.

Russian experts supported Vietnam in constructing key infrastructure projects, laying the foundation for economic and social development. The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant and the Vietsovpetro Joint Venture symbolize this friendship. Additionally, thousands of Vietnamese officials trained in Russia have become leading experts, making significant contributions to the construction and defense of socialist Vietnam.

Mr. Sadykov Timur Sirozhevich, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, delivered a speech at the meeting.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep noted that despite both nations' challenges, Vietnam-Russia relations continue to develop comprehensively. Political and diplomatic ties remain the foundation, defense and security cooperation is a key pillar, while economic and trade ties are the driving force. Bilateral collaboration continues to expand across multiple fields, benefiting the two nations and contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Member of the Standing Committee of Can Tho City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, presented flowers and commemorative gifts to Mr. Sadykov Timur Sirozhevich, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, and Mr. Saliev Alexey Vladimirovich, Chairman of the Trade Union of Vietsovpetro Joint Venture.

Vice Chairman Diep reaffirmed Can Tho City’s commitment to preserving and strengthening its traditional friendship with Russia. The city has actively promoted cultural exchanges and trade promotion efforts to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between the people of both nations. “This 75th-anniversary gathering in Can Tho is a testament to the deep-rooted relationship that has been continuously nurtured for decades,” Mrs. Diep emphasized.

In 2024, Can Tho City's export turnover to Russia reached $1.82 million. Acknowledging that this figure remains modest compared to the potential for bilateral cooperation, Mrs. Diep expressed hope that the Consul General would serve as a bridge for further cultural exchanges, trade promotion, and investment cooperation. The official also encouraged more Russian businesses to explore investment opportunities in Can Tho and more Russian tourists to visit the city, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.

Mr. Sadykov Timur Sirozhevich, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed confidence that the 75th-anniversary event in Can Tho would further deepen the traditional friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Russia. He emphasized that both sides should continue looking toward the future with confidence, embracing new achievements and joint projects that mutually benefit both countries and the world.

The gathering concluded with a series of Vietnamese-Russian cultural performances featuring songs and dances that have become deeply ingrained in the memories of many Vietnamese people.
