1. The Temple of Hung Kings

The Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City is a remarkable cultural construction of Can Tho City. The Temple, inaugurated on April 6, 2022, is a place for the locals and tourists to contemplate Vietnam’s cultural architecture, and commemorate and offer incense to the legendary ancestors of Vietnam. This monumental work contributes to educating generations of Vietnamese people, especially the younger ones about the origins as well as showing our gratitude to the Hung Kings - our founding fathers who have made great contributions to nation-building, fighting against foreign invaders, and overcoming natural disasters to preserve and develop the country.

In addition, the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City attracts many visitors thanks to its unique architecture. the project's highlight is the main temple building with 18 stylized bows resembling a bronze drum image, surrounded by a lake. The bows are sculpted patterns representing the 18 Hung Kings. The main temple is a 19.5 m high circular block built on a square foundation, on an area of nearly 1,300 m2, implying Sky and Earth. Surrounding the main temple are 54 cylindrical pillars of 4.5 meters in height and one meter in diameter, forming a circle in the lake that symbolizes the community of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

2. Binh Thuy District Square - Southern Folk Cake Festival

The 10th Southern Folk Cake Festival in 2023, themed "Preserving and promoting the value of Southern folk cakes", will take place from April 28 to May 2, 2023 at Binh Thuy District Square. The event attracts more than 300 display booths and 160 bakers from 27 units and organizations of provinces and cities, including Hau Giang, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, An Giang, Dong Thap, Binh Thuan, Can Tho and others. The festival is a chance for gourmets to enjoy a wide range of local specialties and delicious cakes and performances of traditional cake-making of localities in the country. Moreover, the event also includes a series of cultural and sports activities to serve visitors, such as cake offering ceremony at the Temple of Hung Kings in Can Tho City, tourism promotional programs, don ca tai tu (southern amateur music), performances of traditional cake making, folk cake making contest and folk games, etc. Particularly, the Hot Air Balloon Festival 2023 with the theme “Fly up Can Tho! Proud to be home to white rice and pure water will take place from April 30 to May 3 at Can Tho City.

The Southern Folk Cake Festival has become an important tourism event with the goal of preserving and promoting the cultural values of Vietnam’s cuisine and traditional cakes of the southern region.
