Binh Thuy Ancient House is currently used to worship the Duong family. The house was first built in 1870 and embellished in early 20th century. The large, luxurious house is located on Bui Huu Nghia Street, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City. Through the French-palace-style concrete-and-iron gate, you can see a small East-Asian-style gate with 4 round columns and the “Phước An Hiệu” board on the front of the gate. 

The owner of the house was Mr. Duong Chan Ky, a rich merchant, an intellectual and an artistic landowner. He really liked to explore the new values of the Western trend at that time, especially in architecture. Therefore, visitors can feel a fine combination between the Eastern and the Western cultures in this house.

Many plants and flowers blossoming throughout the year, which makes the house ancient and lively, surround the ancient house. To enter the house, visitors must go through the elegant curved stairs decorated with patterns. The stairs lead to the broad front yard.

When standing in the front yard, looking at the front of the house from, visitors cannot help admiring the exquisite beauty of the patterns of the columns, iron arch and embossed motifs.

The house is a combination of the Eastern and the Western architecture. Its beauty is of excellent harmony: the Eastern style inside of the house and its Western style outside match perfectly with the surrounding natural landscape!

The house is highlighted with three ancient table sets and a carefully carved bed which is inlaid with pearls. 

The front Western-style decorated of the house has 5 compartments. Guests in important events are welcomed here. The floor is tiled with flower-pattern tiles imported from France. The ceiling of the house is decorated with Plafond and patterns.

The antique collection of the house also includes beautiful furniture such as the white 18th century chandelier or the pair of 19th century chandelier.

The house is ranked as national heritage by the government due to its ancient and valuable structure. Although influenced by Western style architecture, the house still maintains Vietnamese traditional values.

The Binh Thuy ancient house is also famous domestically and internationally due to its appearances as the main context of many famous movies such as “Những nẻo đường phù sa”, “Người đẹp Tây Đô”, “Nợ đời”. For the movie “Người tình” (The Lover), the house was used as Huynh Thuy Le’s famous house in Sa Dec Town.
