
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, stated that in recent years, the cooperative relationship between Can Tho City, the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, and Indian partners has developed positively. Currently, nearly 500 Indian students are studying and living in Can Tho City. The city and the Indian Consulate General have successfully collaborated to organize International Yoga Day, an annual foreign affairs event that attracts significant interest and participation from local yoga enthusiasts. Cultural exchange programs, artistic performances, and working delegation exchanges between the two sides have also been effectively implemented.
In 2024, Can Tho City received approval from the Indian Embassy for the project “Construction of Rural Traffic Bridges on Transportation Routes in Districts of Can Tho City,” funded by a non-repayable grant of USD 50,000 from the Indian Government’s Quick Impact Projects Fund. Additionally, the Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy welcomed the establishment of an “India Corner,” a project expected to serve as an ideal venue for young people and residents of Can Tho to learn about the people and culture of India.
Currently, there are no FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) projects from India in Can Tho City. However, the export turnover of goods to India in 2024 reached USD 4.26 million, primarily consisting of seafood, garments, agricultural products, and processed agricultural products. Meanwhile, imports from India amounted to USD 22.58 million, mainly including pharmaceutical raw materials, agrochemicals, veterinary medicines, fertilizers, chemicals, and other items such as seafood raw materials.

The Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee expressed his hope that the Consul General would pay special attention to and support the connection between Indian importing businesses and Can Tho enterprises in the fields of rice, seafood, agricultural products, and processed agricultural products exports. Furthermore, the city wishes to enhance cooperation in exchange programs for lecturers and students, particularly in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, and healthcare. At the same time, Can Tho City hopes to continue collaborating on organizing Vietnam-India cultural and artistic exchange programs to foster greater understanding and connection between the people of Can Tho and India.
For his part, Mr. Vipra Pandey, Consul General of the Republic of India in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception from the leadership of the Can Tho City People’s Committee. Mr. Vipra Pandey highly appreciated the progress in the cooperative relationship between India and Can Tho and shared effective solutions to further promote collaboration between the two sides. He committed to continuing support for Can Tho City in strengthening exchanges, promoting trade, and facilitating investment cooperation with Indian partners in the near future.
