The 12th Southern Folk Cake Festival 2025, held from April 4 to April 8, 2025, featured 231 booths with the participation of 17 units from provinces and cities across the country, along with 9 districts of Can Tho City, as well as businesses and folk cake artisans. The festival was divided into various zones, including the folk cake area, the regional specialty area, and the culinary area showcasing local dishes and those from provinces and cities nationwide.
The festival also offered a variety of engaging activities that attracted residents and visitors, such as: a demonstration and introduction of giant banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes) and the largest banh chung (square sticky rice cake) in the Mekong Delta; hands-on folk cake-making experiences; and performances of music, dance, and art at the festival’s main stage.
A highlight of the festival was the Folk Cake Competition, which saw 44 teams competing with 58 different cakes, bringing together 116 artisans from 23 units across various provinces and cities. After days of competition, the judging panel selected 10 groups and 20 individuals with outstanding achievements in the contest.
Additionally, this year’s bonsai and ornamental plant competition and exhibition attracted over 100 entries, allowing visitors to admire meticulously crafted and cared-for bonsai works by artisans. This added diversity to the series of activities at the Southern Folk Cake Festival.
Over the five days, the festival drew more than 500,000 visitors to explore and participate in its various activities.
The Southern Folk Cake Festival is an annual event in Can Tho City aimed at honoring the cultural and culinary values of Vietnam in general, and Southern folk cakes in particular. It contributes to promoting Southern folk cake specialties to both domestic and international visitors, while creating opportunities for businesses and artisans to connect, collaborate, and develop folk cakes into a national brand.
