The Prime Minister approved the O Mon II Thermal Power Plant Project, located in Phuoc Thoi Ward, O Mon District, Can Tho City, for its investment policy at the end of 2020. An investment registration certificate was granted on January 22, 2021, and the Project's feasibility report received approval in June 2023. The Project is being carried out by O Mon II Power Company Limited (OM2PC), established by a consortium of WTO Construction Trading Joint Stock Corporation and Marubeni Corporation. The plant has a capacity of 1,050 MW ± 10%.
According to the representative of Marubeni Asian Power Vietnam, OM2PC issued the EPC bidding documents for the O Mon II Thermal Power Plant Project on September 30, 2024. The bidding process is expected to close around the end of February 2025. Currently, negotiations are ongoing for the power purchase and gas sales agreements. At the same time, they await the completion of the legal framework to ensure the Project's feasibility and financial arrangements.
The O Mon II Thermal Power Plant Project is anticipated to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028, in alignment with the overall progress of the Block B – O Mon gas power project chain. Marubeni Asian Power Vietnam hopes that Can Tho authorities will provide support to overcome difficulties and obstacles, ensuring the Project can proceed on schedule.
During the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu appreciated Marubeni Asian Power Vietnam's efforts to implement the O Mon II Thermal Power Project. He had assigned various departments and sectors, based on their functions and responsibilities, to provide support and address any challenges the Company may face within their authority. Multiple power plant projects are being developed simultaneously in the O Mon area. Therefore, Can Tho City’s leader hopes that all units involved will work together effectively to complete the Project and bring it into operation as soon as possible.
* On the same afternoon, OM2PC conducted a conference to clarify the bidding documents for the EPC package of the O Mon II Thermal Power Plant Project. Present at the meeting were leaders from Can Tho Municipal Department of Industry and Trade, representatives from the Project's investors in the O Mon Power Center, and domestic and international contractors.
At the conference, OM2PC shared detailed information about the Project and addressed various concerns raised by contractors, such as the scope of work, the interface plan with related infrastructure projects, design standards, and the construction plan. As the project investor, OM2PC is committed to conducting a fair and transparent evaluation of bidding documents in compliance with legal regulations. The goal is to select a qualified contractor who can ensure the timely construction of the factory while meeting the established quality standards.
On the same morning, OM2PC conducted a field survey at the O Mon II Thermal Power Project site, specifically the 500kV station yard, which serves the grid connection and connection points shared with other projects in the O Mon Power Center.
