"Journey Home - Discovering the Autumn of Tay Do" is an event organized by the Vietnam Small and Medium Tourism Business Forum (VTF) under the Vietnam Tourism Association. It takes place at Bao Gia Trang Vien and Bao Gia Farm Camping and is coordinated by Hai Au Can Tho Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism Company Limited in Can Tho City.
"Journey Home - Discovering Autumn in Tay Do" is based on the concept of a small village coming together for a family reunion. Visitors participate in activities that reflect the atmosphere of Thuong Thanh village in Cai Rang during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture through various unique experiences. The 100 members will be split into four teams, each representing a different ethnic group. They will embark on journeys infused with the essence of the Western region through activities such as "Our Village Loves Each Other" and "Our Village Is Skillful." In these activities, visitors will play traditional and modern games and use technology to search for materials to prepare for decorating houses and making offerings for the Reunion Night. The challenge stations will be located at Bao Gia Farm Camping, Cai Chanh Market, and Bao Gia Trang Vien. Throughout the process, team members will collaborate on various games, including going to the market, rowing a boat to collect water hyacinths, deciphering secret messages, and utilizing innovative technology applications to find destinations. After gathering all the necessary materials, the groups will decorate their houses together, meet artisans and local villagers, and learn how to tie decorative coconut leaves, make bánh in (sweet rice four cake), and create star lanterns.
After a full day of activities, Ms. Doan Thi Loc, Director of Ohana Eco Tours Company in Ho Chi Minh City, remarked, “The 'going home' theme is very representative of the Southwest region. We had many interesting experiences infused with local culture. When we were tying coconut leaves and making banh, it felt like a return to childhood; it was exciting." Mr. Pham Duc Binh, Director of TRAVELMOMENT Company in Hanoi, shared similar sentiments: "This is a meaningful experience program that brings a friendly, approachable feeling. Visitors feel like they are reliving their childhood through traditional games, like tying coconut leaves and making banh. I was impressed with the activity of making banh; it was enjoyable. With the guidance of local people, making banh is not as difficult as I thought; it's straightforward to learn." Ms. Phan Thi Kim Hien, who instructs the workshop on making bánh in, explained, "Like other traditional cakes, bánh in also uses readily available ingredients, easy to find around the house. The cake often appears on the Mid-Autumn Festival offering tray. Bánh in is relatively easy to make; anyone can do it if they are observant and skillful enough to make a beautiful and delicious cake to serve guests."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong, General Director of Hai Au Can Tho Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Company Limited, mentioned, "It has been over four years since we last organized a family trip. During this time, we have refined and enhanced our products. We have modernized the traditional folk games, incorporating technology and staying true to the local culture. We aim to revitalize tourism not only in Can Tho but also in the Mekong Delta. Our programs involve direct interaction and engagement with local people of different generations, offering visitors an authentic experience."
According to Ms. Doan Thi Loc, Director of Ohana Eco Tours Company in Ho Chi Minh City, "This themed experience program aligns with what we seek in the West. These products represent indigenous culture, are rustic, and provide a deep, high-quality experience." Additionally, Mr. Cao Hong Diep, representative of Wyndham Grand Cam Ranh Resort in Khanh Hoa and Head of the VTF Executive Board in Ho Chi Minh City, mentioned, "VTF organizes several fam trips to new destinations every year to experience new products, exchange ideas, and connect. We chose the West for this family trip. Previously, tourism products in the Mekong Delta were often competitive, but this time, we had a unique experience of 'going home' in Can Tho. These experiences embody the traditional cultural identity and showcase the generosity and friendliness of the people in the West."
"Journey Home - Discovering the Autumn of Tay Do" offers experiences, games, and workshops and provides a space for unique traditional arts and culture performances and re-creations. Visitors can enjoy Don ca tai tu, Can Tho folk songs, and Vietnamese lullabies, essential to local culture. Tran Van Duc (Tran Minh Duc or Hai Duc), a Meritorious Artisan, emphasized that the traditional arts and culture of Don ca tai tu Nam Bo are essential spiritual nourishment for the people in the West. He says events like this allow artists to connect, exchange ideas, and spread traditional arts and culture to young people and tourists. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong, General Director of Hai Au Can Tho Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism Company Limited, mentioned that they have invited five artists to perform to introduce the local traditional arts and culture to tourists. The event allows us to meet experienced professionals and young talents. The goal is to bring tourists closer to the intangible cultural heritage in this setting."
It can be said that "Journey Home: Discovering Autumn in Tay Do" is a specialized product offering profound insights and providing visitors with a culturally rich experience, thus setting it apart within the range of Can Tho tourism offerings.
