The 12th Southern Folk Cake Festival 2025 was held in an atmosphere celebrating significant national holidays and historical anniversaries. It not only commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) but also serves as an event honoring the nation’s roots - the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the opening, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, stated: “The Southern Folk Cake Festival in Can Tho City is a distinctive cultural and tourism event held annually to honor, preserve, and promote the traditional culinary cultural values of the nation. The festival is not only a gathering place for the finest folk cakes but also a bridge for interaction among artisans, businesses, and visitors, boosting the development of tourism and the socio-economic landscape. The event also opens opportunities to connect and promote specialty products to domestic and international markets, helping Southern folk cakes become a high-value culinary brand”.
This year’s festival takes place from April 4 to April 8, 2025, featuring over 230 booths dedicated to folk cake displays, regional specialties, and culinary spaces. It brings together hundreds of artisans from various regions, showcasing traditional Southern folk cakes that reflect the creativity and essence of Southern cuisine.
Delegates visited booths displaying Southern folk cake products at the festival.
Within the festival’s framework, vibrant activities include a cake-making competition, a demonstration of giant banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes), an introduction to making banh chung (square sticky rice cakes), a bonsai competition, and nightly artistic performances.
During the same period, Can Tho City will hold the 2025 Hung Kings’ Commemoration Ceremony at the Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho City on the morning of April 7, 2025 (corresponding to the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month). This event aims to encourage all walks of life to honor their national roots, unite in spirit, and work together to build a stronger, more prosperous, and happier homeland, contributing to the development of an advanced Vietnamese culture rich in national identity.
