Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu said: Can Tho City wishes to strengthen cooperation with businesses and localities of the United States in the fields of economy, education, health and sustainable environmental development.

Can Tho city is located in the heart of the Mekong Delta region, the city prioritizes promoting economic development, attracting many foreign investors, including the United States. In addition, Can Tho is shifting its focus from agricultural development to promoting large-scale industrial development, aiming for better economic efficiency.

Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu also hopes that the United States will support the city in the field of science and technology, education and training; care, share and support in healthcare, helping Can Tho and the whole Mekong Delta region respond well to the epidemic, examine and treat diseases, improve the capacity of medical staff and doctors; especially support investment in modern medical equipment and machinery.

In the first 9 months of 2024, the export turnover of Can Tho's goods to the US market reached a total value of 106.29 million USD, mainly agricultural products, garments, handicrafts and steel products. However, this figure is not commensurate with Can Tho's potential to supply high-quality export products. Therefore, Can Tho City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Hieu hopes that Ambassador Marc Knapper will pay attention to supporting the city's key export products to continue to be exported stably to the main market of the United States, and at the same time connect US partners to learn about investment in projects that Can Tho is prioritizing to call for investment.

Ambassador Marc Knapper thanked the leaders of Can Tho city for their warm welcome. At the same time, Ambassador Marc Knapper said that Vietnam and the United States have just celebrated the 1st anniversary of the elevation of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In 2025, the two countries will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations. Ambassador Marc Knapper said that this is a good opportunity for economic development, trade, investment cooperation and training fields to improve high-quality human resources.
