Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep and leaders of city departments, agencies, and local authorities attended the opening ceremony.
More than 100 bonsai and ornamental plants are displayed, featuring various bonsai styles. The competition has attracted individuals, organizations, artisans, cooperatives, groups, clubs, and businesses involved in bonsai cultivation and trade. The bonsai entries are categorized into five groups: bonsai landscape miniatures, large bonsai, medium bonsai, small bonsai, and mini bonsai.
Entries are evaluated based on antiquity, aesthetics, uniqueness, artistry, color vibrancy, plant health, and absence of pests or diseases.
Judging for the contest occurs on April 6, with the awards ceremony set for the evening of April 8, 2025. Prizes will be awarded for Special, First, Second, and Third place across various bonsai categories, each reflecting their unique characteristics. The contest is primarily funded through community contributions, with Hoa Hao General Hospital - Medic Can Tho as the primary sponsor.
The competition is part of the 12th Southern Folk Cake Festival 2025, celebrating major national holidays. It also provides a platform for artisans to exchange experiences and improve their craft while enabling organizations and individuals to promote their products and expand their markets. The event also aims to raise community awareness about environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable development of plant varieties while honoring those dedicated to preserving and cultivating bonsai.
