Promoting cooperation between Can Tho city and Niigata prefecture (Japan)

On the afternoon of August 5th, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, had a warm meeting with Mr. Hanazumi Hideyo, Governor of Niigata prefecture (Japan), along with the leaders of the prefecture government and businesses visiting Can Tho City.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, presented a commemorative gift to Mr. Hanazumi Hideyo, Governor of Niigata prefecture (Japan).

Attending the meeting were Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, and leaders of relevant departments and sectors.

During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu expressed his joy in welcoming Mr. Hanazumi Hideyo and the delegation to Can Tho City for the first time, reaffirming his deep respect and special affection for Japan and its people. In particular, the Can Tho Bridge is a significant highlight in the cooperative relationship with Japan, demonstrating the strong friendship between the two countries.

Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu stated that Can Tho City is one of the five centrally-governed cities of Vietnam, located in the heart of the key economic region of the Mekong Delta, identified as a dynamic city for regional development. Therefore, activities in the city have a regional linkage nature. Therefore, the visit of Mr. Hanazumi Hideyo and the leaders of the government and businesses of Niigata prefecture this time will open up many prospects and opportunities for cooperation between Can Tho City and Niigata prefecture, as well as between Niigata prefecture and other localities in the Mekong Delta region in the future.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu also mentioned that Can Tho is currently experiencing an economic restructuring. Therefore, the city is looking to promote investment in the processing and manufacturing industries from developed countries, particularly Japan. The Secretary of the City Party Committee hopes that in the future, Mr. Hanazumi Hideyo will continue to connect Japanese enterprises and investors to explore cooperation opportunities for investment in Can Tho City. Additionally, both sides need to enhance cooperation in labor, employment, and vocational education with institutions and schools in Can Tho City, especially Can Tho University...

Appreciating the warm reception from the leaders of Can Tho City, Mr. Hanazumi Hideyo highly values the potential and prospects of cooperation between the two localities; he also stated that the purpose of this visit to Can Tho City is to promote the implementation of wide-ranging, substantial, and effective cooperation activities, contributing to the development of the good and friendly cooperative relationship between the two localities in the future.

It is known that the entire city currently has 8 FDI projects from Japan with a total registered capital of about 1,349.31 million USD, mainly operating in processing manufacturing, information technology, electricity production... In the first six months of 2024, the total trade turnover between Can Tho City and Japan reached only 106.17 million USD, of which exports were 80.72 million USD, mainly in seafood, textiles, agricultural products, and processed agricultural products... Specifically, Can Tho city and Niigata province have already established several concrete collaborations in the fields of trade investment and agriculture.
