Spreading the trend of health tourism
Date: 16/11/2023

Wellness tourism embodies both physical and mental health significance, currently being a beloved trend worldwide. In Can Tho City, health tourism has garnered considerable attention from many travel agencies and hotels, offering visitors energetic experiences.
A yoga workshop attracted numerous participants and received structured guidance from the instructor.

Last September, Vietravel Can Tho collaborated with Victoria Resort Can Tho and EleThy Yoga to organize a practical yoga workshop under the theme 'Autumn, Healthy Living & Yoga.' The workshop engaged 30 members, tourists who had registered for Vietravel's autumn promotional tours. For over two hours, these members, guided by instructor Cao Thanh Toan, performed fundamental yoga exercises, energizing their weekends.

Mr. Le Ke Nguyet (born in 1952, Cai Khe Ward) shared, "I've been practicing yoga for about a month now and have noticed tangible health benefits, especially for older individuals like myself suffering from joint issues. In today's session, I was the oldest and the only male participant, yet felt comfortable during yoga practice. I believe programs like this are highly beneficial and hope Vietravel and collaborating entities continue these activities, connecting more participants".

Meanwhile, Ms. Pham Viet Ngoan (An Khanh Ward) stated, "I've been practicing yoga for 5 years, reaping multiple physical and mental benefits. Therefore, upon hearing about Vietravel's workshop, I immediately registered. With the professional guidance of the instructor, I found the exercises here suitable for everyone. Choosing the time and space to conduct the workshop was also ideal. On weekend mornings, everyone practiced together in a cool, green garden space, followed by a light breakfast. This greatly contributes to everyone's health, combining exercise and relaxation".

Supporting as a collaborative organizer, Ms. Vo Xuan Thu, Director of Victoria Resort, shared, "Post-pandemic, people have shown increased concern for health, both physically and mentally. Leveraging our advantage of serene green spaces, we have organized various health-boosting activities like meditation, underwater yoga for hotel guests and locals. Our group's motto is "health, kindness, and growth." Hence, when Vietravel proposed a yoga workshop, we were ready to join, spreading the joyous and healthy living spirit. Personally, I also participated as a member in the session to experience these enriching moments."

Instructor Cao Thanh Toan stated: 'The age range of participants in today's morning session spans from children to middle-aged individuals. Yoga suits all age groups. Yoga isn't difficult; it just requires proper and consistent practice. I hope organizing entities will continue maintaining activities like these to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Sharing her thoughts on the workshop idea, Ms. Le Dinh Minh Thy, Director of Vietravel Can Tho, said: "This is an experiential activity for Vietravel's tourists. Recently, there has been significant interest in health tourism, so Vietravel aims to spread the message of joyful and healthy living through yoga workshops. This is also Vietravel's gesture of gratitude to its customers. We chose yoga because it's suitable for various age groups, with gentle and easily applicable movements. Hence, we plan to regularly continue this activity".

According to a survey by the Wellness Tourism Association in 2022, a staggering 76% of respondents expressed willingness to spend more on travel to enhance their health. Conversely, as per Grand View Research's forecast, the global healthcare tourism market is expected to exceed $1 trillion by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of nearly 10% over the next 8 years.

In reality, wellness tourism is currently widespread, often combining relaxation with fitness classes, meditation, yoga, spa treatments, hot spring baths for health recovery, painting activities, and more. Some countries have developed health tourism brands, such as Japan with onsen bathing, tours combining meditation and yoga in India, and salt baths in South Korea.

A notable event established in 2017 is the World Wellness Weekend (WWW), which aims to inspire and promote a healthy lifestyle. WWW encourages organizations, associations, federations, and cities to jointly organize free healthcare activities for everyone every third weekend of September each year.

Over the past 2 years, Vietnam consistently ranked in the top 10 countries globally with numerous activities during WWW week. In 2023 alone, Vietnam had nearly 200 destinations, hotels, resorts, and businesses participating in WWW. The yoga workshop organized by Vietravel Can Tho, Victoria Resort Can Tho, and EleThy Yoga also took place on the third weekend of September, serving as a means to propagate the trend of health tourism in Can Tho City.
