Tran Hoang Na Bridge is a 597m-long arch bridge that spans over the Can Tho River and links Ninh Kieu with Cai Rang Districts in Can Tho City. Work on this Tran Hoang Na Bridge reached completion on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Can Tho becoming a central-level city (1st January, 2004 - 2024).
At the event, Mr. Bui Thai Thuong, director of the management authority for ODA (official development assistance) projects, said that Tran Hoang Na Bridge is a grade I project, with its starting point at Ninh Kieu Bank and its ending point at Cai Rang bank. The width of Ninh Kieu shore is 37m, and the width of Cai Rang shore is 23m. The width of the bridge at the main span is 23m, and the side span is 29,3m at the viewing platform 34,6m. The total length of the main bridge is 586,9m, including the path is 820m. The bridge is built as a load-bearing steel arch bridge, running in the middle of 3 bridge spans according to technical specifications of 49+150+49m. Navigation height is 7m, and clear space on both banks is 2m.
The construction of Tran Hoang Na Bridge belongs to package CT3-PW-2.4 of the Can Tho City Development and Enhancement of Urban Adaptation Project, funded by the World Bank. The three-span arch bridge carried a price tag of VND791 billion (US$32.5 million). It is carried out by a joint venture of contractors Transport Construction Corporation 1 - Joint Stock Company and Bridge 14 Joint Stock Company. Once the bridge, situated between the Hung Loi Bridge and Cai Rang Bridge, is put into service, it is expected to attract more waterway tourists, Mr. Bui Thai Thuong said.
Moreover, the Tran Hoang Na Bridge runs parallel to Nguyen Van Linh Street, which has been facing severe traffic congestion lately. The construction of the Tran Hoang Na bridge and street has helped reduce the traffic volume on this route. The completion of this project has also made it easier to connect the Ninh Kieu District area with the South Can Tho Urban Area and the Can Tho City Central Bus Station (Cai Rang District), which has led to a significant reduction in travel time. This change has been well-received by the residents living in the affected areas of the project, as well as the people of Can Tho City as a whole, the official said.
Vice Chairman of Can Tho Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien, highlighted the role of the Tran Hoang Na Bridge at the opening ceremony, saying that it would contribute to the local socio-economic growth and shorten the time needed to commute between Cai Rang and Ninh Kieu. The bridge will also help enhance the traffic infrastructure system, promote local tourism, and attract more investors to this Mekong Delta city.
“This is a key project, playing a very important role in the city's socio-economic development. The completion of the project can be seen as an opportunity to improve architectural elements spanning the Can Tho River, creating a highlight for the city and increasing its appeal to visitors, especially tourists on the river”, Vice Chairman of Can Tho Municipal People's Committee said.
Apart from the Tran Hoang Na Bridge, the ODA project management authority recently opened a section of Hoang Quoc Viet Street lying between Nguyen Van Cu Street and Road No.923 to traffic, completed work on the Cai Son-Muong Khai canal renovation project and a road section linking Cach Mang Thang Tam Street with Road No.918.
