On October 3, Mr. Vo Thanh Thong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city and related departments, agencies had a working session with Mr. Abe Masayuki, Director of VAIO Company, Japan (specializing in investment promotion cooperation in agriculture Viet Nam – Japan) on the development of the ideal model farm project which will be implemented in Can Tho Technical Economic College in the coming time.

At the working session, Mr. Abe Masayuki said that the main focus of the plan was to build an agricultural engineering training system together with establish a basis which aimed to rapidly deploy an integrated farming system, including: organic farming methods, refrigeration systems in commodity circulation, frozen preservation techniques, stable harvesting techniques, improved product quality. This is also the system being implemented by Japanese agricultural businesses.

VAIO Company will be the unit that will assist in establishing and operating the project. According to Abe Masayuki, the project will be implemented on the campus of Can Tho Technical Economic College with an initial area of ​​about 2 hectares, using the investment funds of Japanese Government and the private ones of enterprises of both countries.

About the implementation progress, the project is divided into 3 phases Specifically, phase 1 from September 2017 to December 2017, Vietnam and Japan will sign a preliminary cooperation contract to call for investment. Phase 2 will begin from January 2018 to April 2018, the project will start to renovate the farm, decide the Japanese agricultural engineer in charge and the type of agricultural products as well as prepare seedlings, build greenhouse, train agricultural engineers in Japan for Vietnamese students and engineers as candidates. Phase 3 will be from May 2018 downwards, the project’s experts will investigate environment, land to find a suitable reclamation and be expected to start by July 2018.

According to the plan, this model farm not only harvests delicious and safe agricultural products but also becomes a model farm from the processing, development, marketing to techniques in maintenance and transport products. It was also designed as a reference model for other provinces.

Mr. Vo Thanh Thong, Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee agreed with the idea that Can Tho Technical Economic College will use 5 hectares of land in the school to make model farm. After the working session, Can Tho Technical Economic College will work with VAIO Company to discuss and propose specific cooperation methods of the project to ensure the goal expand the model, train professional human resources and Japanese for people inside and outside the project.
