This is the first time that the festival is organized to introduce and promote images about culture and people of Can Tho; Ninh Kieu tourism in particular and Can Tho city in general; building and creating a space for community recreation, gradually forming specific tourist products of the by-river city tourism.

The festival will take place at Ninh Kieu quay, pedestrian bridge, Khai Luong canal, Cai Khe canal with many cultural activities, art performances and sports. Of which, there are 3 highlighted activities: the opening ceremony, the “Ninh Kieu flower garlands and colored lanterns, converging and shining” contest and the second traditional boat race of Can Tho city.

The contest will be a new feature in the festivals held in Can Tho, contributing to create a space for enjoyment and interesting experiences for visitors.

Accordingly, there will be about 50-60 flower garlands and colored lanterns, with many creative forms floated on Khai Luong canal (looking down from the pedestrian bridge). These will be displayed on the river from the evening of the 19th to the end of 25th of August for visitors do sightseeing and take pictures.

In addition, the festival will also have many satellite activities, such as photo exhibition entitle “Ninh Kieu - Can Tho, past and present”; amateur singing performance on the river; displaying booths, “Cakes - Ninh Kieu folk cuisine” show; booths promoting tourism; calligraphy, portrait painting, folk game activities, ect.

This event will become one of the highlight activities of Can Tho tourism with the orientation of developing specific features of the by- river city. Ninh Kieu Quay has also been planned as a national tourist destination (Ninh  Kieu Quay, Pedestrian Bridge, Cai Rang Floating Market and other islets along Hau River) and Can Tho Culture, Sports and Tourism Department are building this project.
