At the seminar, delegates were introduced an overview of ASEAN and ASEAN visibility up to 2025, general issues of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Vietnam’s commitments in the AEC, taking full advantages of the rule related to the original to have preferential tariff in ASEAN, opportunities and challenges of the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho City in particular since Vietnam joined the AEC. Also in the seminar, delegates, speakers and economists discussed some issues related to the economic development of the Mekong Delta in AEC integration; especially the opportunities that AEC has brought to people and enterprises.

According to the Vice Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam, ASEAN is the door to help Vietnam integrate into the world in the fields of politics, economy, culture and society. Since joining the AEC, the two-way trading between Vietnam and other AEC countries has grown rapidly over the years. In addition, Vietnam has made progress on administrative reform. The total import-export turnover among Vietnam and ASEAN countries has currently increased seven times more than the first joining days.

Besides, Can Tho is the center city of the Mekong Delta, and over the past years, delegations from ASEAN countries have come to Can Tho to seek for investment opportunities and Can Tho is also keen to learn how to cooperate with other countries in the area.
