Attending the launching ceremony, there were leader representatives of the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, the Committee Party, the Public Security and leader representatives of Departments, Boards, Divisions of Can Tho city, leader representatives of the People’s Committee of Districts, offices under the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Welfare, the Communist Youth Union and nearly 800 children, union members, youths of Can Tho city.

With the theme “Implementing children law, preventing and fighting violence as well as sexual abuse to children”, the launching ceremony was organized to implement effectively the regulations of law on children to ensure the children rights, especially on protecting children. Besides, it promotes the propagation and education of knowledge on law for parents, teachers and babysitters. It also shares some skills on preventing and solving violence and sexual abuse to children.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Le Van Tam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City suggested departments, boards, divisions of the city, the People’s Committee of districts focus on strengthening the propagation and education to mobilize the community and society, actively participating in the Action Month for Children, organizing practical and effective activities to help impoverished children, improving the role of the family in prevention and minimization of violence and sexual abuse to impoverished children.

The Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City also asked for the reinforcement of coordination and integration in educating morals, lifestyle, living skills for children associated with the family, school and society; raising the awareness and responsibility of agencies, organizations, individuals having competence to support, interfere and solve violence and sexual abuse to children; giving priority in receiving and solving on time things related to violence and sexual abuse to children. In addition, the Permanent Vice Chairman requested that everyone should actively mobilize the Children Protection Fund to build welfares for children, offer gifts and scholarship to impoverished children, support handicap children in surgery and orthopedics, sponsor children having special circumstances.

In addition, the organizers held some safe and healthy activities for entertainment for children in summer, such as children’s club, children’s forum and other activities so that children had opportunity to express their ideas on some issues related to them.

On this occasion, the Organization Board offered 20 scholarships with VND 1.000.000 each to impoverished children in the city.

Immediately after the launching ceremony of “the Action Month for Children” of the city was a series of responding activities organized by districts from May 28th to June 4th, such as visiting, offering gifts to impoverished children, children’s forum, summer camp, activities related to culture, arts, physics, sports and other safe, useful, interesting things in the summer.
