Position and functions:

Department of Health is a specialized agency of the People's Committee of Can Tho City. Its functions are to advise and assist the People's Committee in performing the function of State management over the city in health related issues in care and protection of people's health including preventive health care, health care, rehabilitation, traditional medicine, preventive and curative medicines,  cosmetics affecting human health, food safety, medical equipment and devices; public services in the health sector; to perform a number of tasks and authorities under the authorization of Can Tho City People's Committee and in accordance with law .

Department of Health operates under the direction and management of Can Tho City People’s Committee in organization, staffing and operation, and is subject to the direction, guidance, control and inspection of the professional services by the Ministry of Health .
