Speaking at the event, Liming Wang, ET Solar chief representative for Southeast Asia, said ET Solar wanted to build a system of solar power plants which were capable of generating nearly 200MW of electricity in Việt Nam, especially in localities with great potential, such as Bình Thuận and Cần Thơ.

ET Solar has been successful in 15 countries and has become a prestigious share on the US securities exchange. In Việt Nam, ET Solar expects to build a plant, sell products to market and transfer technology to localities.

Trần Ngọc Nguyên, director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology, said Cần Thơ was calling for investment in biology, automation, new materials and energy. In particular, renewable energies such as solar batteries and power have been included in the city’s planning until 2020 with a vision up to 2030 to increase power supply, especially in remote areas.

Cần Thơ also reduces land use fees for foreign enterprises, and offers land tax waiver for projects in the list of priority investment. Investors can enjoy corporate tax exemption in the first four years of operation, 5 per cent tax in the next nine years and 20 per cent tax in the 16th year and later.

Foreign firms operating in high technology are entitled to import and value-added tax exemption, access to preferential loans, equipment and human resources from research and development centres in hi-tech areas.

The same day, the ET Solar working delegation took a fact-finding trip to Hưng Phú industrial zone and expressed belief in a bilateral partnership in the future.
