Attending the festival, there were leader representatives of ministries and central departments; leader representatives of provinces, cities; leaders and former leaders of Party Committee, People’s Council; People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland and Front of Can Tho province, Can Tho city through different periods; actors, actresses, craftsmen and lot of visitors.

The representatives of leaders attended the opening ceremony.

With the theme “Sweet flavor of the South”, the festival was officially held from April 6th -9th, 2017 with more than 250 booths displaying and introducing many different kinds of traditional cakes, regional specialties, industrial products supporting traditional cakes of units, enterprises and craftsmen coming from many districts of Can Tho city and 15 provinces in the whole country, such as Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Binh Phuoc, Ben Tre, An Giang, Tien Giang, Kien Giang, Ha Noi, Tra Vinh, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak together with foreign units coming from foreign countries, such as Campodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, India, Korea, Thailand, France.

According to the information from the organizers, the new feature of this year festival is that the Southern Traditional Cake booths will be introduced in the centre of the area, arranged traditional cakes, regional specialties carefully to ensure the three cultural elements, namely “Baking- Selling –Enjoying Cakes”. Section “Floating market in the street” introduced and sold traditional sweet soup through recreating the floating market atmosphere with  boats, candles, ..on the river. Especially, there is an exhibition of the collection of 60 objects which were traditional baking tools of 3 ethnic groups: Vietnamese, Chinese and Cambodian with 30 pictures showing the ways of making cakes.

In addition, there were many new, exciting activities attracting visitors in the festival, such as: the ceremony programs, the displaying of more than 100 kinds of traditional cakes in and out of the country, the cake offering ceremony in Tan An Temple, the traditional music exchanging between Vietnam and Cambodia, the seminar on “The Southern Traditional Cakes- Preserved and Promoted by Tourism”, the activities showing how to make traditional cakes, the southern traditional cake festival, calligraphy performance, the closing programs of the festival, the musical and offering prize.

Mr. Le Van Tam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, was talking at the opening ceremony.

In the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Van Tam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City said, “The  Southern Traditional Cake Festival is an annual activity of Can Tho city. I hope the value of southern traditional cakes will be introduced to the world in this year festival to help foreigners understand more about the country, people, traditional cuisine, especially types of southern traditional cakes. It also build the love of Vietnam in general, the south of Vietnam in particular and contribute the cooperation in all aspects”.

A day before, on April 5th, in the framework of the festival, the cake offering ceremony was hold at Tan An Temple.
