
The view of Can Tho Mental Hospital
Can Tho Mental Hospital was built in the scale of grade 2 with a modern architecture, a civil work with VND 103.8 billion total investment. The hospital has 100 beds for patients including emergency section, outpatient section, logistics section and 10 departments including Emergency Department, Male Psychiatry Department, Female Psychiatry Department, Pharmacy Department, Hematology Laboratory Department, Diagnostic Imaging Department, Functional Exploration Department, Infection Control Department, Nutrition Department and General Service Department.
The area for treatment
Dr. Bui Thi Le Phi, Director of Can Tho Department of Health, said that mental disorder is one of the most common non- communicable diseases in Vietnam.
Presently, Can Tho has detected and treated for 3.000 epilepsy and schizophrenia patients in the community. They were free in receiving drugs and treating at the commune health stations. Every year, Can Tho Mental Hospital receives 1.000 inpatients, examines and treats for 25.000 outpatients. However, the former hospital (located at 3/2 street, Ninh Kieu District) is old house systems and lack of equipment so it was not satisfied the patients’ needs with only 40 beds.
Before that situation, the People’s Committee of Can Tho City has approved the project of building Can Tho Mental Hospital with a scale of 100 beds in Phuoc Thoi Ward, O Mon District, Can Tho City. Putting Can Tho Mental Hospital in operation will help Can Tho city satisfy the mental patients’ needs in the examination and treatment, receive all emergencies, serious and complicated diseases. Especially, this is also a place for educating, training medical students and officials specialized in mental departments in the medical units of Can Tho City.
Mr. Le Van Tam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, said that building the new mental hospital has consolidated and improved the city’s health care network, developed the human resources and medical technology, met the demand of the health care services of people in Can Tho and in the Mekong Delta.
