Taking place from 21/2/2017 to 31/2/2017 at Can Tho City Library, the Spring Newspaper Festival provided the readers 460 spring publications with over 2,200 copies including spring newspapers of 63 provinces and cities; spring publications of press agencies, departments, boards and units from the central to the local of the country; spring publications of 9 districts, departments, boards and units of Can Tho city.
Can Tho City Library also organized a spring newspaper exhibition at Ninh Kieu Quay within 6 days (from 25th to 30th of lunar December of 2016), a spring newspaper exhibition serving Viet Nam Day of Poetry at Binh Thuy Temple and the 140th anniversary of the death of Bui Huu Nghia attracting a lot of local people and tourists. Besides, 9 district libraries and 58 ward libraries, reading rooms in Can Tho city worked together displaying spring newspapers and operating performances, sports serving local people.
In the framework of the 2017 Spring Newspaper Festival, the City Library opened the e-Library giving readers new opportunities in using the library services which are suitable for research, study and entertainment needs contributing the development of Can Tho city in the new period. After ending the Spring Newspaper Festival, the Organizing Board will continue serving the readers until the end of the 1st quarter of 2017 at the City Library the circulate to the district and ward libraries, reading rooms serving people.
According to the Organizing Board, this year festival attracted 23,000 visitors at 71 serving places throughout the city. This activity expresses the role of reading culture and confirms the effectiveness of serving the society of the newspapers by providing a various source of information for cultural economic development, social politic security and safety of Can Tho city.
On the occasion of summing up the 2017 Spring Newspaper Festival, the Organizing Board announced and awarded the Dinh Dau Spring Publications Contest. There were 17 contestants including 9/9 districts and 8 departments, boards and units of the city. According to the organizers, spring publications in the contest were on the topic with many articles including three main contents as Party and Uncle Ho, Tet and Spring, the political tasks of the local units. Moreover, the achievements in the field of economic, cultural and social development were expressed quite coherent, persuasive and lively. They also went deeply into the specific cultural characteristics of the local attracting the readers.
To sum up, Spring Publications of Binh Thuy District won the 1st prize of district group and Tay Do Youth Spring of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Can Tho City won 1st prize of department, board group. Both were offered the Certificate of Merit of the People’s Committee. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also offered the Certificate of Merit for four 2nd prizes, six 3rd prizes and five consolation prizes in both groups beside two prizes about the theme including beautiful front cover and format.

In this case, Mr. Do Hoang Trung, Director of the Department of Information and Communications has deployed the plan of the Spring Newspaper Festival and Mau Tuat Spring Publications of 2018 with some main points as Communist Party of Viet Nam, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and Uncle Ho, the Spring and the Lunar New Year, the political tasks and the future plans of the local departments, boards and units.
