The Innovation contest for Can Tho youth and children aimed to stimulate the potential and develop the creativity of the youth as well as the children in the city. Furthermore, this contest also helped teenagers and children cultivate knowledge, practice creative skills, and build up the dream of becoming a prospective inventor.

The contest was launched to all children and adolescents aged from 6 to 19 years old. The products for the competition were categorized in the following areas: school supplies; software; user-friendly products, environmental protection and economic development; Household utensils, children's toys. Typical product models included the manufacture of biological dishwashing liquid from soap; Biological insecticides from lemongrass, perilla leaf and Mexican mint; advanced lawn mowers and pruning machine; automatic steps lift for two-wheeler; automatic water suction machine, soybean residue for new combustible material, mini incubators;

A solution to improve lawn mowers and pruning machine invented by Cong Chi Thinh - Dong Binh Secondary School, Thoi Lai district, Can Tho city.

The organization received 676 solution models coming from primary, secondary and high schools, increased up to 31 in comparison to the previous year. Accordingly, the jury selected the four first prizes; five second prizes; six third prizes and 24 consolation prizes. From this contest, the organizers had proposed 39 products to take part in the 13^th children Innovation Competition in Ha Noi.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee - Chief organizer of the contest highly appreciated all pupils’ effort, attempt and creativity as well as recognized and warmly commended their enthusiastic spirits to compete in the contest. The Vice President also noticed that although the profile and product of this year’s contest were more upgraded than previous years, the inventors needed to improve their presentation skills towards their contested products, especially when they wanted to compete in a national competition.

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung also launched the Innovation Contest for Can Tho Youth and Children in 2017-2018. He suggested that the Union of Science and Technology Associations should preside and coordinate closely with the Youth Union, Department of Education and Training, Department of Science and Technology in order to study and change the contest organizing method in a more universal and flexible way. Therefore, the contest’s influence and achievement could quickly widespread socially and became a lever to promote the emulation movement to study and the creative labor of young people in the city. In addition, it was necessary to propagate the meaning and influence of the competition so that the teachers and the student’s families could understand its true values and positive impacts. Thence, we could encourage students to participate in researching, creating, diversifying qualified products and improving the quality of the contest.
