
As usual, Tan Loc Temple continues to be chosen as a place to organize the festival. In the opening rite, all members of sacrifice board with “ao dai” (Vietnamese traditional dress) and “khan dong” (Vietnamese traditional headdress) solemnly celebrate the ceremony. A head of the sacrifice board reads a text praying for peaceful country, happy people, good weather, and good harvests. After the sacrifice, representatives of the government attend the thanksgiving ceremony in the area of Tan Loc Dong to pray for successful festival and call all people for building a prosperous nation. On this occasion, the leaders of Can Tho city also offer a certificate of recognition as a city level cultural- historical relic to Tan Loc Dong Temple.
The Tan Loc Fruit Garden Festival 2017 takes place from May 28th to 30th, is a change to honor the cultural lifestyles in the Mid-year Lunar Festival (on Lunar May 5th) of people in Can Tho city and introduce the potential of the eco-tourism in Tan Loc Island. The festival is also an opportunity to promote the image of the country as well as the people of Tan Loc to visitors, step by step build and improve Tan Loc into one of the most popular tourist destinations on the tourist map of the city.
The festival is also a change to introduce everybody traditional dishes, folk cakes, delicious fruits and some specialties of the Mekong Delta, promote Tan Loc fruits in particular and Can Tho city in general.
In the framework of the festival, many activities related to sports, culture and arts will be organized, such as Lan Su Rong Dance Expansion Award, booth displaying of traditional folk food, strange fruit and vegetable exhibition contest, “Chim choi, chim hot” (fighting birds, singing birds) contest, bonsai contest, seminar on local specialty plants, Vietnamese goods to countryside fair, folk song performances, displaying and selling fruits, exhibition on photos, books, newspapers and magazines, exhibition on products of traditional handicraft villages and many interesting folk games as picking fruits, beating earthen pots, jumping in bags, catching pigs.
Also, on this occasion, the Organization Board invited representatives of 35travel agencies and relevant units joining the delegates to survey some tourist sites and traditional handicraft villages in the area.
Finally, the festival is an opportunity for scientists, local farmers and companies meeting, exchanging, transferring technology, finding partners to participate in the process of production, preservation and consuming fruits. It is also a change to actively promote and improve the competitiveness of fruits in the country and in over the world.
