At the reception, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien expressed his pleasure to receive the Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City Daniel Stork during his business trip to Can Tho City.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien noted that Vietnam, particularly Can Tho, is making significant efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, as committed at COP 26 for the UN Climate Change Conference. He also mentioned that Can Tho City is actively implementing comprehensive measures to promote green growth, respond to climate change, and pursue sustainable development.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral collaboration in agriculture, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation with the Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City Daniel Stork.

Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien expresses hope that Can Tho City can learn from the Netherlands and receive support for projects and programs focused on green and sustainable development to achieve net zero emissions. He believes both sides could further develop collaboration in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions through forums and multilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Additionally, the Netherlands and the Mekong Delta share similar challenges due to their low-lying terrain, making them vulnerable to flooding and subsidence. Therefore, extensive cooperation between Can Tho and the Netherlands in environmental and climate change programs presents valuable opportunities for implementing projects to prevent and adapt to rising sea levels and flooding in the future.

Can Tho City leaders received the delegation of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding education and training, the leader of Can Tho City hoped that educational and training institutions in the Netherlands would strengthen their links with partners in Can Tho City to open undergraduate and postgraduate training programs and short-term and long-term training courses for civil servants and teachers at high schools, colleges, and universities in the city.

Mr. Daniel Stork, the Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, thanks the Can Tho authorities for their warm welcome. He highly appreciated the successful cooperation between the Netherlands and Can Tho city in recent times, particularly in drainage management, wastewater treatment, plastic waste collection from rivers, and projects related to sustainable green agriculture, adapting to climate change.

According to Consul General Daniel Stork, both sides have established a strong foundation for future bilateral cooperation projects, especially the fields of wastewater management and treatment, responding to climate change, and meeting the goals of green growth and sustainable development.
