Date: 01/01/2025

On December 23, the Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, Tran Viet Truong, chaired a meeting with relevant departments and agencies to discuss the preparations for the Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) Executive Committee’s meeting and a parliamentary forum on francophone cooperation in sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate change response in January 2025, hosted by the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam.
Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, Tran Viet Truong, spoke at the meeting.

The event is scheduled in Can Tho City from January 21 to 24, 2025. Key activities will include the opening session of the APF Executive Committee Meeting; the Francophone Parliamentary Forum on francophone cooperation in sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate change response; field visits to exemplary projects focused on climate change adaptation and sustainable agricultural development; bilateral exchanges; and an exhibition featuring signature agricultural products from Can Tho City and other localities in the Mekong Delta.

According to the National Assembly's online portal, Vietnam's hosting of the APF Executive Committee Meeting is in line with the foreign policy directives established at the XIII Party Congress. It implements the Central Secretariat's Directive 25, which focuses on strengthening and enhancing multilateral diplomacy by 2030. The meeting also aims to contribute to the development of multilateral institutions actively. This event marks the first activity of the APF following the successful 19th Francophone Summit, which took place in Paris, France, in October 2024. It further advances the implementation of resolutions and new strategies adopted during the summit.

Vietnam’s role in hosting the APF Executive Committee Meeting highlights its leadership within the Francophone community, the International Organization of La Francophonie, and the APF in the Asia-Pacific region. This event also reaffirms Vietnam's commitment to actively and responsibly participating in multilateral parliamentary diplomacy, strengthening the nation's role and position within regional and global parliamentary cooperation mechanisms.
