In the morning of August 14, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism held the 6th Meeting of GMS Southern Tourism Corridor in Can Tho city with the participation of representatives of national tourism agencies of four countries, including Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office, tourist management offices and enterprises of the provinces in the Southern Tourism Corridor of the four countries above. Deputy Director of the General Department of Tourism, Ha Van Sieu chaired the meeting.
On August 9, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city and the People’s Committee of Phong Dien district had a working section on planning to host Phong Dien Ecotourism Festival 2019. This is an annual event responding to the World Tourism Day (September 27) and promoting tourism, agricultural products and local specialties of Phong Dien. Simultaneously, it will create opportunities to help ecotourism garden owners here connect with travel agencies and enterprises operating in tourism.
In the afternoon of August 8, the People’s Committee of Can Tho city held a workshop entitled “Exchanging information on potential and jointly developing sustainably” which aims to promote investment into Can Tho city for Japanese enterprises, with the support of the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh city. It took place in Ho Chi Minh city with the participation of agencies and organizations of Can Tho and Japan and more than 150 Japanese enterprises.
On July 23, 2019, the People’s Committee of Can Tho city agreed to implement a pilot project namely “Can Tho Portal and Smart Travel Mobile Applications” financed from the budget of Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group – Can Tho Branch according to the proposal of the Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Lung Cot Cau Ecotourism (in Phong Dien district) is an option which is rather suitable for everyone who wants to experience the life in the countryside, because it is not too far Can Tho city center and have many exciting activities.
According to Ninh Kieu Office of Culture and Information, Ninh Kieu Lantern Festival 2019 for the third time will take place in November, instead of in August like the two previous ones. This change has been approved by Can Tho City People's Committee, and the Organizing Committee is reminded to choose the appropriate time so as not to overlap with other annual events in the city.
After 3 days, Cai Rang Floating Culture - Tourism Festival 2019 officially closed on the evening of July, 8th. The show attracted more than 50,000 visitors as well as 200 - 300 boats and ships frequently taking visitors to Cai Rang floating market. The number of tourists traveling to popular destinations in and outside the region also increased more than usual. The festival had 140 booths for displaying, trading and promoting tourism products, agricultural products and local cuisine which attracted many visitors to the show.
The development of the tourism sector in recent years indicates that tourism remains a strong momentum for the global economic growth. At the same time, this growth reminds us of the importance of developing and managing the sustainable tourism, establishing smart destinations as well as applying the latest scientific and technological advances. Smart tourism is, therefore, a part of the project ‘Developing Can Tho to Be a Smart City in the Period from 2016 to 2025.
